About Me

Hi! 👋🏼

My name is Mitchell Willocks.

I am a commercially-minded and uniquely skilled lawyer with a passion for the Technology, Media, and Telecommunications (‘TMT’) sector. I have a flair for Privacy & Data Protection, New Technologies (e.g., Artificial Intelligence and Distributed Ledger Technology), Intellectual Property, Competition Law, and Private International Law.

One of my key objectives in life is to undertake meaningful work in an environment that reflects my core values of inclusion and diversity, lifelong learning and mentorship, and the importance of giving back. My exemplary academic background and professional experience have seen me accrue comprehensive knowledge and practical experience, which has served me well to excel in legal practice.

What I Do

I have worked with a broad range of clients from large foreign and domestic public and private corporations to small and medium-sized enterprises. For example, I have assisted a US-based publicly listed fitness conglomerate to expand into Australia, an ASX-listed medical device company to protect their IP, and an Australian social media influencer talent agency to grow their business.

My focus is on the TMT sector, and I have fostered a reputation for my exemplary technical skill and knowledge concerning high-technology clients and matters. I have a knack for building strong client relationships and becoming the first port of call for advice clients can trust.

Key Capabilities

My key capabilities lie in the sectors and services about which I am most passionate. My passion for technology and the technological aspects of the law see my key focusses span from Privacy & Data Protection and Intellectual Property to Competition and Consumer Protection Law and Private International Law. The common thread inherent in my key capabilities is that technology and innovation are concepts that are not restrained by jurisdictional borders, and as a result, necessitate sound advice that can apply on a global scale.

Beyond Law

When I'm not serving my clients as a lawyer, you may find me exploring the world with my camera in hand, designing and developing apps, websites (including this one), and digital solutions, or volunteering with community, sporting, and professional organisations such as batyr, Out For Australia, Brisbane Tritons Water Polo, and the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras.

One of my core volunteering and community engagement efforts is with batyr, a for-purpose preventative mental health organisation, created and driven by young people, for young people. Through batyr, I deliver speeches to high school and university students with the aim of alleviating the stigma surrounding mental health and to engage, educate, and empower young people. I have also served as a member of batyr’s National Advisory Group and Being Herd Advisory Group.
